The Questions You'll Finally Be Able to Answer When Your Data Works
Questions You Can't Answer Now
"How many customers?" (2 hours). "Are we growing or shrinking?" (unsure). "Why did revenue drop?" (no idea). "Which segment is most profitable?" (gut). "Will we hit targets?" (hope). "Should we hire?" (unclear). You probably can't answer these confidently in 5 minutes.
Questions You Can Answer (With Working Data)
Growth: Customer count, growth rate, on-track to target, where growth comes from, channel efficiency — in seconds to 2 minutes. Customers: Best customers, why we're losing them, who's at risk, what drives satisfaction, whether we're retaining the right ones — in 2-3 minutes. Revenue: Forecast, ahead/behind plan, which deals will close, revenue at risk, unit economics — in 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Business: How we're doing, where to focus, should we hire, is strategy working — in 2-5 minutes.
The Time Reduction
Without data: "How many customers?" 2-8 hours; "Why did revenue drop?" 4-16 hours; "Should we hire?" weeks. With data: 30 seconds, 2-5 minutes, 15 minutes.
What Makes These Answerable
Single source of truth. Clean data. Automated reporting. Clear definitions. Historical data to measure "Did this change work?"
Questions Still Hard
Root cause ("Why did churn increase?" — could be 5 things). Prediction (future is unpredictable). Strategy (data shows problem; solution needs judgment). Data answers the easy stuff so you focus on the hard stuff.
